Crucial Do's & Don'ts Checklist

DO NOT speak to Owl on the roof without backing up your save! You CANNOT cancel or exit Owl's dialogue prompt once started — there is no "back" button. Force-closing the game mid-dialogue risks corrupting your save.
How to know the Owl encounter is coming: 1) You collected all 3 items (Mortal Blade, Lotus, Shelter Stone). 2) Ashina Castle idols get locked due to invasion. 3) You climb to the rooftop where Genichiro was fought. 4) Owl is visibly standing in the center of the rooftop arena. Rest at the Ashina Dojo idol below the roof and BACK UP YOUR SAVE before approaching him!
DO NOT defeat the Divine Dragon early! Defeating the Divine Dragon triggers the final Ashina siege and permanently locks you out of initiating the questlines for Purification (Father's Bell Charm) and Return (Divine Child Frozen Tears).
DO complete all quest steps for Purification & Return BEFORE fighting Divine Dragon! Collect the Aromatic Flower (from Owl Father in Hirata II) and Frozen Tears (from Divine Child) before entering the Cloud Sanctuary.
DO NOT speak to Kuro post-Isshin until you have created Save Backup #2 at the nearby idol!
