Recommended Stats Before Fire Giant: Level 90-110 | Vigor 50 | Weapon +20 to +24
1. Accessing the Mountaintops
- The Grand Lift of Rold: After defeating Morgott, Melina gives you the Rold Medallion. Proceed through the eastern gate of Leyndell, past the Misbegotten and the Black Blade Kindred, to reach the lift that takes you to the snowy peaks.
- Low Visibility: The initial area is blinded by a blizzard. Hug the right wall to find the map fragment safely.
2. Things to Do Before the Boss
- Castle Sol (Crucial): Located in the far north of the mountaintops. You must defeat Commander Niall here to obtain the left half of the Haligtree Secret Medallion, which unlocks the Secret Areas (Part 8).
- Church of Repose: You will be invaded by Bloody Finger Okina here. Defeat him to get the Rivers of Blood katana, arguably the best Bleed weapon in the game.
- Miner's Bell Bearing [3]: Found in the Zamor Ruins at the very start of the area. This allows you to buy Smithing Stones [5] and [6].
3. The Path to the Forge
- Head southeast across the frozen lake (where Borealis the Freezing Fog patrols).
- Cross the massive chain bridge suspended over the chasm to reach the Foot of the Forge.
- Alexander's Quest: You can find Iron Fist Alexander on the mountain path south of the freezing lake. Exhausting his dialogue here allows you to summon him for the Fire Giant.
4. Boss Strategy: Fire Giant
The largest boss in the game. You can use Torrent for this fight, which is highly recommended for closing gaps.
- Weaknesses: Slash damage, Bleed, and Poison/Rot. Immune to Fire.
- Phase 1: Ride Torrent straight at him. Dismount and attack his left ankle (the one wrapped in a braid). When the braid breaks, he will stagger, and that leg becomes his weak point. Watch out for his massive shield sweeps; roll through them.
- Phase 2: He rips off his leg and the face on his chest opens up. His weak points are now his wrists and the eye on his chest, which are very hard to hit for melee builds. The safest strategy is to stay behind him on horseback and chip away at his remaining stump, while running away whenever he casts massive AoE fire spells.
- Point of No Return: After defeating him, you can rest at the Forge of the Giants to burn the Erdtree. Doing this instantly teleports you to Farum Azula and advances NPC quests. Make sure you are ready before talking to Melina.
