India vs Zimbabwe - T20 WC Review

Super Eights - Group 1 | 2026

India 256/4 (20 ov)
Zimbabwe 184/6 (20 ov)

India won by 72 runs

1st Innings

India Batting

Abhishek Sharma started with 55 runs (30 balls). Okay, he played aggressive cricket, but I still feel he plays foolishly sometimes. There was no need to take such high risks early on when the runs were coming anyway.

Ishan Kishan (38 off 24) saved the day early on with a very constructive inning. He held one end when things looked shaky.

Then we had Hardik Pandya who scored 50* off just 23 balls. Same comments as Abhishek though—sometimes the shot selection feels like they want to hit a six from the 1st ball even when it's not needed. But he finished strong!

Tilak Varma was the unsung hero with 44* off 16. That's the kind of finisher India needs.

Zimbabwe Bowling

The Zimbabwean seamers had a tough day at the office. While Richard Ngarava picked up a wicket, he was expensive going for 62 in his 4 overs. Sikandar Raza was the most disciplined, finishing with 1/29.

2nd Innings

Zimbabwe Batting - The Brian Bennett Show

Zimbabwe put up a massive fight. Brian Bennett was absolutely incredible, scoring 97* off 59 balls. He deserved a century today. Sikandar Raza also chipped in with 31, but the target was just too high.

India Bowling

Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers with 3/24. He used the variation perfectly in the death overs. Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel also kept things tight in the middle.

Key Takeaways: My Opinion

India won the match but I don't think they should just get away with it. There are several areas that still need serious improvement before we face the bigger teams in the knockout stages.

Bowling Strategy: I think we still need to improve our bowling line and length. One thing I really don't understand is why India is trying so many different bowlers when we already have such high-quality bowlers available? We should let our primary bowlers bowl their full quota of overs. For example, Bumrah didn't even complete his full spell today, and Hardik Pandya was also underutilized in terms of overs.

Mindset: While being aggressive is good, I believe an aggressive mindset is not always the right approach for every situation. We need to find a better balance between aggression and tactical stability.

Overall, it was a good win, but the bowling department specifically needs to be more disciplined.
