Things To Do Before the Gym

Granite Cave

Granite Cave is located northwest of Dewford Town. You'll need HM05 Flash to light up the lower floors, but you can find Steven without it if you know the way.

Pro-Tip: Finish the Gym First!

The Knuckle Badge from Brawly is required to use HM05 Flash outside of battle. It is highly recommended to defeat Brawly before exploring Granite Cave's lower dark floors, as navigating them in pitch black is extremely difficult.

Gym Puzzle: The Pitch Black Maze

What is the puzzle: The gym's interior is shrouded in darkness. You can only see a small circle of light immediately surrounding your character.

How to solve: Defeating the gym trainers (Laura, Hideki, Tessa, Cristian) expands your field of vision. Walk straight up, turn right, walk all the way down, then follow the winding corridor to the upper right corner to locate Brawly.
