A comprehensive breakdown of Wolf's Dragon's Heritage immortality: unlocking 3 resurrection nodes, clearing the mid-fight strike-through lockout, and managing infinite free consumable items in Gauntlet runs.
Wolf is bound by the Dragon's Heritage, granting him the power to defy death on the battlefield. When your Vitality gauge reaches zero, the action slows down and you are presented with two choices: accept true death or tap Resurrect to rise with approximately 50% Vitality and continue fighting immediately.
When you resurrect, surrounding enemies momentarily drop their aggro and turn away, believing Wolf is dead. You can choose when to trigger the revive (or wait a few seconds) to ambush bosses from behind or safely drink a Healing Gourd.
Resurrecting on the spot does not trigger Sen/XP loss or spread Dragonrot. Only when you run out of revives (or decline to revive) and see the kanji "DEATH" screen will you lose 50% Sen/XP and risk spreading Dragonrot to NPCs.
Look directly above your health bar in the bottom-left corner of the HUD. You will see 2 or 3 circular/petal nodes representing your current resurrection potential.
You begin your journey with 2 resurrection nodes once the mechanic is unlocked early in the story. To permanently unlock your 3rd resurrection node, follow these exact steps:
Obtain the Young Lord's Bell Charm from the old woman in Ashina Outskirts (Gate Path) and offer it to the Buddha statue inside the Dilapidated Temple.
Fight through the burning Hirata Estate and defeat the main boss, Lady Butterfly. Upon delivering the final deathblow, she drops the rare key item: Sakura Droplet.
Progress the main story to defeat Genichiro at Ashina Castle roof and speak to Lord Kuro in his room. Select the option to show him the Sakura Droplet. After dialogue, he bestows Wolf with the permanent 3rd Resurrection node!
If Kuro is captured or unavailable later in the story, you can also present the Sakura Droplet to the Divine Child of Rejuvenation at the Inner Sanctum in Senpou Temple, Mt. Kongo.
A common question among players: "If I have 3 full resurrection nodes, can I revive 3 times in a row during a boss fight?"
The answer is NO — not without unlocking it between deaths. Here is the exact mechanic:
The moment you choose to resurrect during combat, a heavy black ink strike-through line is drawn across all your remaining resurrection nodes. Even if your 2nd or 3rd node is full of pink energy, you cannot revive again while this lock is active. Dying with the strike-through active causes immediate true death!
Landing a Shinobi Deathblow to strip away one of the boss's red marker orbs (completing a phase) instantly removes the black strike-through! This means if you died in Phase 1 and resurrected, landing the deathblow on Phase 1 safely re-enables your resurrection for Phase 2.
If you are trapped in a single brutal phase (e.g. Sword Saint Isshin's final spear/lightning phase) and need a second revive right now, consuming a Bundled Jizo Statue or Dragon's Blood Droplet manually erases the strike-through lock immediately!
| Consumable Item | Effect on Resurrection Lock | Node Energy Restored |
|---|---|---|
| Bundled Jizo Statue | Clears Black Strike-Through instantly | Completely fills 1 secondary resurrection node |
| Jinza's Jizo Statue | Clears Black Strike-Through instantly | Completely fills 1 secondary resurrection node |
| Dragon's Blood Droplet | Clears Black Strike-Through instantly | Restores a small sliver of node energy |
| Bite Down / Hidden Tooth | Special suicide with NO strike-through penalty | Allows immediate free revive without locking nodes |
Understanding how your nodes refill is critical to surviving long exploration stretches and boss encounters:
Resting at any Sculptor's Idol automatically recharges your 1st Node (Circle) to 100%. However, Idols do NOT recharge Nodes 2 or 3.
Every stealth deathblow and combat deathblow you execute out in the world draws pink vitality energy into your secondary nodes.
Popping a Mibu Balloon of Soul significantly increases the amount of resurrection energy gained from killing enemies for a 2.5-minute duration.
The Gauntlet of Strength is Sekiro's ultimate boss rush mode, unlocked after beating the game. Here is exactly how your revives and items operate inside these gauntlets:
You have access to all your unlocked resurrection nodes during every boss fight in the Gauntlet, following standard boss phase and deathblow rules.
If you run out of revives and get a true "DEATH" screen, your entire Gauntlet run is over. You must start over from Boss #1.
Because Gauntlets of Strength take place inside Wolf's inner memory reflections, no items used during a Gauntlet are consumed from your actual save file! You can freely pop your rarest Bundled Jizo Statues, Dragon's Blood Droplets, Divine Grass, and Yashariku's Sugars in every fight. The moment your Gauntlet run concludes (win or lose), your inventory is restored to its exact pre-run count.
After defeating any boss in a Gauntlet, you are placed in an ethereal waiting area with a Sculptor's Idol. Resting at this Idol completely replenishes all 3 Resurrection nodes, all 10 Healing Gourd charges, and your maximum Spirit Emblems for the next fight!
One of the most frustrating issues players encounter occurs when starting a New Game Plus (NG+) run: you open the Gauntlet of Strength menu at the Dilapidated Temple, enter a fight, die once, and immediately get an instant Game Over with zero resurrection nodes available.
When you enter New Game Plus, Sekiro's story state resets. Even though you retained your prayer necklaces, prosthetics, and combat arts, Wolf's resurrection power is narrative-locked until you trigger the early-game awakening cutscene in your new playthrough. Because Gauntlets pull your character's current real-time state, having an inactive story flag completely shuts off Gauntlet revives.
Sneak past the guards, meet Lord Kuro at the Moon-viewing Tower, get your Kusabimaru, fight Genichiro in the field, and wake up at the Dilapidated Temple.
Walk forward past the Dilapidated Temple into Ashina Outskirts. Stand in front of any enemy and allow them to deplete your health bar to zero.
Dying triggers the scripted cinematic where Lord Kuro speaks into Wolf's mind ("Rise, Wolf... Take back what was lost"). Your resurrection nodes will immediately appear on your HUD. Now, return to the Idol — your revives will work flawlessly across all Gauntlets!
